Debunking BBC VERIFY fact checkers on Trump statements on Ukraine.

BBC “Ukraine didn't start the war. Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, having annexed Crimea in 2014.”

NO. Ukraine started the war by violently overthrowing the democratically elected President and Government in the Maidan coup and the immediate shelling of the separatist areas of the Donbass.

Crimeans voted by a 97% majority to be part of Russia and NOT be ruled by the neo-Nazi, ultranationalist impending NEW Ukrainian Government. It was hardly “annexed” as it was a protective measure for the vast majority of civilians in Crimea and to protect the Russian Black Sea fleet that Ukraine had agreed to be there for centuries.

BBC “The annexation came after Ukraine's pro-Russian president was ousted by popular demonstrations.”

NO. It was only popular to the people of west Ukraine. A simple look at the voting map for the 2010 Presidential elections show that the people of east Ukraine supported their President.

No mention by the BBC that this was a violent ousting.

BBC “Russia also backed proxy forces who seized areas of eastern Ukraine, and it accused the new government in Kyiv of discrimination and genocide against Russian speakers. The International Court of Justice, external has rejected Moscow's claims.”

NO. Ethnic Russians in the east didn’t “seize” areas, they left the Ukrainian military and took their hardware to the Donbass to set up autonomous regions to protect their citizens fleeing from the Ukrainian army and neo-Nazi militias. There were no weapons supplied by Russia as confirmed by Colonel Jacques Baud of Nato.

Russia did not send troops or hardware to help them. However, some volunteers from Russia went to the Donbass as peacekeepers to help protect their brothers and sisters from Ukrainian persecution.

Kyiv shelling civilians in the Donbass is an extreme form of discrimination. Ukrainian troops were massing on the borders of the Donbass in February 2022 for an impending genocide. Russia intervened days later to stop the impending genocide.

The ICJ ruling was on the narrow definition of genocide. Further ICJ rulings sided against Ukraine.

BBC “Russia began a massive build-up of troops on its border with Ukraine in late 2021.”

NO. Russia were protecting its border regions from the massive build up of Ukrainian troops intending to invade the Donbass and possibly into Russia.

BBC “In Ukraine's last parliamentary elections, support for far-right candidates was 2%. It should also be noted that Zelensky is Jewish and that his party has been regarded as centrist.”

NO. Past election results do not show the full picture.

The difference with the neo-Nazis in Ukraine compared with other countries is the influence they have over the whole of Ukraine society including the government, armed forces and the police.

Right wing nationalist political parties may only receive few votes at elections in Ukraine but their paramilitary wings ignore politics as jack boots on the ground are much more effective.

The main stream media in the UK including the Guardian and BBC have conveniently forgotten the programmes and articles they made a few years ago showing the influence of these neo-Nazis.

How can Ukraine have a major Nazi problem if its president is "Jewish?" It's actually very simple, the president simply supports and works with Nazis regardless of his supposed religious background.

Zelensky’s party is far from centrist.
